Reasons to Chase G17-122
With the large gap between the peloton and the rather large break up the road, there were threats to the Maglia Bianca, and to various riders' place in the general classification. Since the best young rider is Bob Jungels (Quickstep) his teammates got on the front of the peloton and began the hard task of reeling the break back in. With fourteen minutes at the largest, the gap was unlikely to be fully closed, but they could protect the Maglia Bianca. The Maglia Ciclamino of Fernando Gaviria was safe, all he has to do is finish the Giro, with the abandonment of Andre Greipel (Lotto Soudal) no one can catch the Colombian sprinter.
