Pedaling Squares TdF122
I love this expression, "Pedaling Squares" although not the feeling. It is so descriptive of what it feels like when your legs have gone on a climb. It feels like your wheels won't even turn, as though the round wheels under you have suddenly become squares. We all know that a square won't roll very well. As the neutral service vehicle sponsored by Mavic road pass the wasted Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana) the mechanic asked if he need help. "No." was the gasped answer. Sanchez wasn't having a mechanical issue with his bike, he was just cooked from driving the pace on the front of the peloton for his team leader, Fabio Aru. The Astana team decided to take the race to Team Sky yet again, hoping to isolate the Maillot Jaune of Chris Froome on the ride up the Col de la Forclaz. The Mavic car carries bikes and wheels for riders who can't get to their team vehicle (or vice versa), however as we learned on Mount Ventoux, the pedals on the bikes don't necessarily match the cleats of the various teams.
