With one last look behind he could tell that he had time to offer a victory salute. Chasing as hard as they could, even opening up their sprints sooner than they would like, John Degenkolb (Giant-Alpecin), Edvald Boasson Hagen (Dimension Data) and the rest couldn't get up to the daring Italian.
