Nafissatou Thiam (Belgium) is about to let fly in the Shot Put. Obviously, she is not built like the traditional shot put competitor, and that is because she is not one. Thiam is one of two dozen women who are competing in the Heptathalon. As the name implies, all of these women will compete in eight separate events amassing a total combined score as they move along. So while Thiam is leading after this throw, it is not at all certain that she will take the Gold Medal (or in fact any medal) in the Heptathalon.
