Does He Have the Golden Wings? TDF21-29
It is said that the Maillot Jaune gives you wings. That implys that seeing the leader's jersey on your shoulders gives you the motivation to go that much deeper to hold onto the coveted leader's jersey. It seemed to work just enough for Mathieu Van Der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) to ride just fast enough to keep the lead for at least one more day. With another flat stage tomorrow it most likely means at least two more days in yellow, tripling his own father's record and honoring his grandfather's memory just that much more. While he only manged fifth on the day, it was enough to hold off a charging Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) by eight seconds. He can take effort in the thought that Pogacar didn't take his jersey today as he did at the end of the Tour last year.
