With the sprinters' and their teams having identified this stage as one of the last for them until the Champs Elysees, it was important to keep close tabs on the break away. While race radio, and the direct communication via radios between the team cars and their men can monitor the gabs, LCL still sponsors a time keeper that shuttles between groups with a chalkboard informing the competitors of the amount of time between each group on the road. Ahead of the time keeper and the peloton is one of the television motorcycles. The camera man sits astride the back of the bike with his camera patched into the antenna you can clearly see on the back of the bike. The signal is beamed up to an airplane and then back down to the television production mobile studio. Pretty cool, huh?
